Founded in 1986 by Frédéric Faure, an alpinist, and Christophe Leservoisier, a specialist for Africa, the company has ever since focused on worldwide guided trekking tours.

“Today, Atalante operates as part of the Decathlon group of companies,” explains Frédéric Giroir, managing director at Atalante and in this position since 2008. “At the present time, we can record 350 references and more than 5,000 travellers per year.”

Atalante and its 20 employees at subsidiaries in Lyon, Paris and Brussels were able to generate an annual turnover of ten million EUR in the past year.

“Our core competences are found in the development and execution of tours by foot for small groups, mostly between 2 to 15 participants,” states the managing director. “We place great emphasis on highly attractive regions concerning nature and landscape. A traditional tour example is a week-long desert tour with up to six attendants. Included are a local supply team with cooks and bearers, a trekking guide, camels, a flight to the starting point and a return flight.”
